Tumor heterogeneity can generally be divided into two categories: inter-tumor heterogeneity and intra-tumor heterogeneity. Inter-tumor heterogeneity refers to the heterogeneity between different tumor tissues, for example, the heterogeneity of tumor cells between different tumor patients; intratumor heterogeneity refers to the heterogeneity between different tumor cells within the same tumor tissue. Single-cell sequencing of the tumor microenvironment investigates the transcriptome at the single-cell level. Through transcriptome amplification and high-throughput sequencing, the gene structure and gene expression status of a single cell can be revealed, reflecting the heterogeneity between cells. Compared with population cell sequencing, it is more suitable for solving problems such as the research of a small number of special samples (such as tumor clinical samples) and the analysis of heterogeneous populations.
